Beethoven’s “Emperor”

The Pacific Symphony is having a concert this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (tonight) at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

I am not attending this one, but it will broadcast on KUSC, on July 19.

Listen to Alan Chapman's preview on SoundCloud.

Guest conductor John Nelson will be performing with pianist Barry Douglas.

Carl Maria von Weber:  Overture to Oberon, J. 306
Ludwig van Beethoven:  Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 73, Emperor

Robert Schumann:  Symphony No. 2 in C Major, Op. 61

I first heard the Emperor concerto live back in 2011.

The symphony and pianist Arnaldo Cohen was doing a Beethoven-athon, and did all five concertos in one week!

We went to the Sunday concert.
