Beethoven’s Ninth Connections

Went to the Pacific Symphony's opening Sunday Connections concert.

The Saturday performance will broadcast on KUSC on Sunday, February 7 at 7 PM (PST).

Listen to Alan Chapman's preview on SoundCloud.

Even though it was Sunday, it was a full blown concert, themed with "getting along with your neighbors".

It started with The Star-Spangled Banner, not every day that you get to sing along with a full orchestra and chorus.  :)

The first half had a world premier by composer-in-resident Narong Prangcharoen, about Orange County!  I liked the part where he gets stuck on the 405 and you hear car horns, Doppler effect and everything.  I wonder if he listened to Rich Capparela's car tunes?  :)

The concert closed with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.  I think this is the third time I listened on the ninth on a Sunday concert, last time was in June 2012, they did a plaza-cast on the night concert that time.  Kevin Deas was bass-baritone back then as well!  He was so funny.  :)

Music director Carl St.Clair conducted with Mary Wilson (soprano), Milena Kitic (alto), John Bellemer (tenor), Kevin Deas (bass-baritone), and the Pacific Chorale.

Aaron Copland:  “The Promise of Living” from The Tender Land
Narong Prangcharoen:  Beyond Land and Ocean (World Premiere)
Ludwig van Beethoven:  Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125, Choral
